History, Literature and Religion Classes:
The History, Literature, and Religion are MODG core courses, and some of our most popular LS
classes. Discussion of essential questions, help with paper writing, and grading of work are only
some of the benefits offered by these courses.
Students taking Religion and book club have three options: They can take the class in the
Learning Support Program, and 1) have the LS teacher grade work , which gives accountability;
2) they can do the class in the LS program, but use a TA/TD to grade work, which gives them
more personalized paper writing assistance; or, 3) they can sign up for the class and turn in their
work through their parents in the basic program.
While paper grading by the teacher is encouraged, parents can also have students audit the
course. There is, however, no difference in cost, except in religion classes, and the book clubs.
Parents with special service students should discuss with their consultants how to best make the
program work for them. We are able to help students with special learning needs.
Below, you will find complete course listing for all of our History, Literature, and Religion
courses, as well as Book Club information. Please click on the title of the course you are
interested in for class times and more information.
(Please note: Unless specifically stated to be otherwise, all times are given in Pacific Time.)
History Book Clubs:
A new offering for Grades 7 and 8! These provide a bi-monthly meeting for the students to
discuss with a teacher the history books they are reading. In Grade 7, the club meets at a regular
monthly time to discuss books. In Grade 8, the meetings occur as books are completed
according to the syllabus schedule. There are nine meetings total in Grade 8. Reminders will be
sent to students prior to class, along with topics to help facilitate class discussion. Paper grading,
if desired, is available through the Teacher Assistance program, or through class.
Grade 7 History Book Club, Grade 8 History Book Club
Learning Support Options for Success With Writing All of these classes are offered with grading. This year, the person grading the work for a class will be the teacher of the class or an assistant working closely with that teacher and section.
For many students, there is enough direction provided in class to write papers without additional assistance,. Some students, however, may need more assistance. If students need consistent one-on-one tutoring as the year progresses, the teacher will either provide this service for an additional fee or $55/semester (pro-rating possible), or we will apply the money paid for grading (included in the total course cost) to a teacher assistant who can work more closely with the student on writing skills. We will work with you to make sure your student is getting the optimal assistance.

"I value the
classes most in
the areas of
history/literature
and religion.
These are areas
that are so
important to my
children's
formation. I
think that the
discussion
format is a
HUGE asset to
their education. "
